Divided into seven sections, the first examines general conceptual approaches to the analysis of brain function, moving from anatomical considerations through pattern recognition and chaotic dynamics to the theory of neural nets. The second section looks at conventional approaches to EEG analysis based on spectral densities and brain mapping. The third section discusses analysis of evoked potentials. Sections Four and Five deal with computer simulations of activity in neural nets and the diagnostic relevance of some computer-based displays and measures of brain activity. Approaches to EEG analysis based on deterministic nonlinear dynamics--reconstruction of attractors, their quantification and the use of recurrence plots--are presented in Section Six and the final section examines models of perceptual processes. Market: Theoreticians in the Life Sciences.
