Literary integrity and political action
Oh dear. The book is titled 'Set free' but the author is anything but set free in my opinion. A better title would have been: 'one woman's intense spiral into orthorexia' or even 'diet as salvation'.
The book starts off promising enough and I had great compassion for the author's struggle with bulimia. I could feel her pain. However her insistence on treating her bulimia by only adjusting her diet and not touching on the psychological aspects of the disease was infuriating.
Even more infuriating was the last two and a half pages of the book where she slaps God onto her mess to justify the title of the book or as some redemption arch. It was just so strange because it seemed throughout the book that the author was looking for salvation from men and food and when she finds this salvation from God she relegates it to a disjointed two and a half pages right at the end.
Oh dear.
