Listening in the Silence, Seeing in the Dark: Reconstructing Life after Brain Injury
A good and useful (heartbreaking) story. The author's style is maddening: where a simple sentence would do, she builds a long, meandering, overly verbose and convoluted sentence. Can she possibly actually talk this way? It was hard to get through the book because of this.
Her main point is that she was trying to understand what makes a "self." With her son gravely brain injured, who is he now? The conclusion, I believe, is that the self isn't the mind, solely, but something on a cellular level, and that it is not static.
