Light of Nature and the Law of God
Borrowed it from my local library in Koto-ku squeezed in among the translations of local crime writer, Miyuki Miyabe and Jeffrey Archer books that comprise our English language section. Accessible and interesting general history material about Japan is hard to find. There are dry books on the Japanese miracle, on the bubble, books on the war and books filled with endless lists of shoguns killing daimyos. Instead, this is nice piece of social history that focuses on four hundred years in the development of modern Tokyo. Possibly, in the original Japanese it was aimed at children, but well I like it, and recommend it to anyone who lives in Tokyo and wonders how the city came to be.
