Seriously wounded, she was captured in combat in 1985 by Cuban-exile CIA agent Felix Rodriguez, who describes this incident among his exploits in Central America as an agent of Colonel Oliver North in his memoirs ("Shadow Warrior: The CIA Hero of a Hundred Battles", Simon and Schuster, 1989). In an interview in a Prime Time-BBC documentary on the CIA (1992) Rodriguez said that the capture of Nidia Diaz was one of the highlights of his career, along with his role in the capture of Che Guevara in Bolivia in 1967.
