The strongest part of this book, as you might expect, are the interviews with the actual people. Shannon is an engaging enough guide, although sometimes she is embarrassingly earnest and...American, for lack of a better word. To her credit, she asks a lot of very good questions, especially of people involved in paramilitary groups.
Hearing woman from Northern Ireland describe their situations themselves, in their own words, was very powerful.
