Detailed, comprehensive account of swords, knives and bayonets, staff weapons, bows, crossbows, guns and other miscellaneous arms dating from the Middle Ages to modern times enhanced with over 280 contemporary illustrations.
Primarily for collectors, Blackmore describes as many as possible of the multitude of weapons used in the hunt. Insisting on encompassing some ignored by many writers, he includes the Fan crossbow along with standard kinds, the throwing weapons of the aborigines as well as Spanish darts, and other slings along with the Medieval English ones. He does however, focus heavily on Medieval to modern times, mentioning only briefly ancient precursors at the beginning of each chapter. The 1971 edition was published by Barrie and Jenkins, London; the reprint is unabridged except that all 151 original plates are grouped together. Annotation c.
