Hot Dog and Bob and the Particularly Pesky Attack of the Pencil People Book

Be afraid of your pencil. Be VERY afraid! Just when Bob is getting over their last battle with the grossly evil pizza alien, he and Hot Dog have a new enemy to tackle: crafty little pencil snatchers from the planet Pencilvania. Beginning readers will be clamoring for Hot Dog and Bob's second adventure.

The school day has just gotten a little more interesting! Bob and his best friend Clementine are sitting together in the lunchroom one day when he opens his lunch box to find a talking, alien hot dog inside. Think that is weird? Wait until Bob's teacher, the generally innocuous Miss Lamphead, turns into a dripping, alien cheese-pizza face who eats her students, but (thankfully) ultimately barfs them out. The idea that there will be some stomach-clenching descriptions in the book should be painfully clear when Clementine describes her sandwich in the second paragraph of the book, "a cookie, salami, french fry, and banana sandwich with chocolate syrup, ketchup, and mayo." Ick! The numerous black-and-white illustrations on every two page spread keep this book alive, seemingly like a cartoon on television or a comic book from days gone by. This book could keep reluctant, emerging readers of both genders enthusiastic about reading if gross-out fun is their forte. Not a necessary purchase.
