Hiking Washington's Alpine Lakes Wilderness

This is an excellent reference for a woman seriously considering a thru hike. One thing I find benficial about this book is that it comes from input from hundreds of women. Other hiking books might give you things that worked or helped one or two people (the authors), but this one is a compilation of surveys that went out to several hundred women thru and section hikers.

Only thing that could be improved would be more updated data. The surveys were given to hikers that completed their thru hike in the late eighties and early nineties. I'm dying to find a book with recent thru hikers and thoughts on more recent technologies.
