The heroic adventures of a mouse named Despereaux who isn't afraid of anything-not mousetraps, not the school principal, not even the deepest, darkest dungeon. In this full-color storybook, with special appeal for boys, Despereaux braves the evil Botticelli and a pack of hungry rats, and discovers that even the tiniest mouse can find the courage of a knight in shining armor.

Kate DiCamillo's literary classic about Despereaux Tilling has enchanted children and adults around the globe. In this tale of bravery, forgiveness and redemption, one small creature teaches a kingdom that it takes only a little light to show the truth: What you look like doesn't equal what you are. Published in 23 languages, with more than 2 million copies in print, a New York Times #1 bestseller and winner of the Newbery Medal, The Tale of Despereaux is now animated adventure from Universal Pictures.

Children's Literature

Despereaux is definitely one of a kind. He does not look or act like other mice. For him, it is great fun to steal cheese from a mouse trap, and furthermore, he never scurries. He is brave. He reads books rather than eating them. He breaks all the rules including talking to a human, Princess Pea. As a result, Despereaux was banished to the dungeon, but this was not the end of our courageous mouse. He and his rat friend Roscuro escape and face an even greater challenge—freeing Princess Pea from the dungeon and the nasty rats. To know how it all ends, kids will either need to read the original book or go see the movie. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
