Henry is very proud of his shiny green coat. He doesn’t like to get dirty or wet, because it makes his coat dull and spotty. One day, when it starts to rain, he refuses to come out of a tunnel, leaving his passengers stranded. Sir Topham Hatt decides that Henry has a lot to learn about being a Really Useful Engine.
This classic story, originally by the Reverend W Awdry, has been adapted to appeal to the reader who is just beginning to read. Includes simple but fun language as well as building, writing, and drawing activities.
The dramatic picture of a unicorn with wings will probably attract readers to this book. The illustrations have a fairy/fantasy appearance which will probably have more girl than boy appeal. The unicorn in this tale has magical abilitieswhen its horn touches a wound it healsbut even with this great gift, the unicorn wants to be able to have wings and fly. He visits the butterflies, birds, and other creatures, always uttering his desire to have wings like theirs. One day a winged horse appears and it is injured. The unicorn uses its magic to restore the broken wing and as a reward for his good deed, he gets a set of wings. A wish fulfilled in this Level 2 book in the "Step Into Reading" series. The opening page has some good information for parents.
