Great New England Sea Serpent
I totally recommend this book!
It is a fascinating exploration of ALL the accounts of the New England Sea Serpent, as opposed to some that deal only with accounts from Gloucester. The accounts sometimes get a bit repetitive, but I think that is an unavoidable problem for a topic that people generally discount. Use a million repetitive examples, or leave people discounting it because the sheer volume of the evidence isn't apparent? O'Neill opted for the former and I think it was the right choice. There is also discussion about things like why no one has seen the serpent in decades, and how environmental factors like overfishing are a real consideration in that question.
There are literally pages and pages of lists of sightings of this creature in the appendix, spanning a century or more and stretching all up and down the New England coast. It is a stunning collection. Is/was the sea serpent real? I don't know. But O'Neill offers compelling evidence to consider the question seriously.
