When an eccentric grandfather presents his grandchildren with an "ancient" map, they join him in a search for hidden treasure. There are clues, riddles, trials, and even failures along the way, but with their grandfather's help, each child finds a special treasure. Back at home while they share their adventures—and some homemade cookies—with their Grandma, Grandpa reveals his own hidden treasure: a photograph of his wife and grandchildren. All members of the extended family see how special they are to each other in this intergenerational and imaginative tale of family fun and caring.

Children's Literature

The grandpa pictured on the cover looks more like a great-grandpa, but he does have a twinkle in his eye. The grandkids are visiting and he invites them to join him on a treasure hunt. He has a map that they follow, and so they all set out to decode what it says and to see if they can find the treasure. The kids get discouraged, but grandpa urges them on and finally they manage to find the buried hoard. I will not spoil the surprise, but today's kids may not be enamored with this story. The pencil illustrations are passable but nothing to get excited about. They merely reflect what the text is saying and do not add much extra.
