Harriet the hamster has a problem. All around her at Hamster World, hamsters are being adopted, while she and her sister can’t even seem to get noticed.

Harriet the Hamster and her sister Patricia live in a store called Hamster World and they are anxiously waiting to be adopted. One night Harriet wakes up and starts reading from the torn newspaper in their cage and finds articles about how to become glamorous. Harriet decides she would be noticed if she used some of the techniques suggested to improve her appearance. She gives her fur a new look, creates a hat, and then gives both herself and her sleeping sister some whisker extensions. Patricia wakes up and screams when she sees Harriet. Harriet thinks she looks like a "Glamster" now, but Patricia persuades her to clean up before the shop opens up in the morning. A subtle moral is entwined with a sweet and happy ending to the story. The illustrations of the cute hamsters are lively and hilarious. This fun story will provide lots of enjoyment for young readers. Reviewer: Vicki Foote
