Most of all, it celebrates my finest accomplishment and greatest gift - the birth and grow to adulthood of my ten healthy children here and in Africa. Maybe it will indeed serve as a source of inspiration for you. I certainly hope so.

Don't let the cover or the title fool you. This is a serious (with light moments) collection of literary essays by some great contemporary women writers. This collection is more about the human condition, as it applies to women and plays out in the life of women, than about reaching 'a certain age'. It's a smart, deeply introspective read. No fluffy affirmations or overly enthusiastic lip service about the spontaneous liberation many middle-aged women claim to experience when they hit 40. These pieces speak of joy, despair, illness, vanity, love, loneliness, lust; the gambit of human emotion/experience we still tote around, funnily enough, once we exit our 30s. It's a great book. Read it.
