Eliza and the Dragonfly (Sharing Nature with Children Series) Book

Eliza and the Dragonfly is about a little girl named Eliza who becomes interested in dragonflies when a dragonfly is found on her toothbrush. When she tells her Aunt Doris, they both take a ride to the pond to release it. While they are there, they find many other dragonflies along the water. As times passes, Aunt DOris and Eliza continue to come to the pond to watch a baby dragonfly grow up to become an adult. Since Aunt Doris has a fascination of bugs, she is able to spend quality time with her niece Eliza to teach her about how dragonflies grow.

Eliza and the Dragonfly is a wonderful realistic fiction book enhanced with information in the area of science. This book can be used to introduce a unit on dragonflies. Also, at the back of the book, Rinehart provides information about the life cycle and history of butterflies. She also provides additional resources on dragonflies to enhance the readers' learning.

The illustration in this book are beautifully painted, and at times, I felt like I was there. For example, when Eliza was looking at the young dragonfly through the "waterscope", you were able to see a clear description of what the text was trying to covey through the illustrations.
