El Malpais, Mount Taylor and Zuni Mountains
This is where I take hikers who think they have done it all. It's hot, dry, and a convoluted maze of jet black lava tubes you can't see over that shred your shoes. I love it. I think this is the only guide book for hiking trails in this area. Probably because not many people hike here. But it is a wild magical mysterious, of not confounding, place'and this is a pretty good book. The background on the geology is informative and well written so that neophytes like myself can understand.
