It is two days since I left my truck at the end of a logging road 20 miles east of here. I have hiked through unmarked forest and over a mountain, through country I have never seen before, to reach a point of land jutting into an unnamed lake, 5000 feet high in the Coast Range of British Columbia.
So begins Chris Czajkowski's account of her epic journey to build a home in the wilderness. Twenty miles on foot from the nearest road, Chris wields chainsaw and ax to carve a homestead from the unforgiving, prisitine wilderness. While not building with more conventional tools, Chris spends her time capturing the essence of the north woods through her watercolors and in her journal. A veteran of the outdoors, she is capable of capturing the ephemeral perfection of these places with a lyrical intensity that touches and inspires.
