Day Hike! Central Cascades
I found the information in the tagged book to be spot on. As my first hike, I chose Gold Creek Trail because it's a relatively short hike (4.8 miles round trip, estimated at 3 hrs) and it's close to my home.
For each hike, the author provided directions to get to the park or parking area. I found the directions to get to the park were great (~30 minutes from my home) and I found it with no problem by following the directions in the book.
The book also gives details on the trail itself along with a map of the trail. I also found that to be spot on and helpful as I pulled the book out a couple times when Gold Creek Trail intersected with other trails to make sure I stayed on the correct one.
The book estimated this hike at 3 hrs, and it took us about 2 hrs and 45 min. I also like that at the front, there's a chart where all 73 hikes are separated by difficulty and each is given a rating (1 to 5 stars) and it indicated which ones you can take your dog on. I found that super helpful as I like to hike with my dog.
As the books described, the views from the top were amazing. Overall, we had a great hike.
I fully recommend this book to anyone looking for day hikes in the Olympic Peninsula. The information is clear and accurate.
