The story takes place in Italy.
Byron who is an ancient Carpathian meets Antonietta a Scarlatti and realizes that she is his lifemate. Antoinette is not your normal heroine in this kind of novels. She is curvy, blind with scars, in her late thirties with white stripes in her hair and she had had lovers before Byron. Her family also is strange and is there is some shapeshifting going on apparently.

I loved this novel. It has mystery, crazy people, a castle with dark passages, steamy love scenes and it is a bit different from the previous novels in the series. Byron is your typically possessive Carpathian, but he is also kind and patient. Antoinette and Byron are wonderful characters and they form an intriguing couple.

They clung to one another, fighting for air, fighting to calm their pounding hearts. Byron didn't move, his body melting into hers. They lay locked together as they were meant to be.
