Crime and Employment
This is an academic retelling by a research fellow of a woman's life in sexual assault, heroin addiction and incarceration. It is true and harrowing. The humiliation done to prisoners in both Cook County Jail in Chicago and state prison is horrendous to conceive. This is the third in a trilogy of stories about Chicago women's lives. Tammy also tells her own story in her own words which is,in general, the more compelling aspect of the book. While it is nice to learn the statistics regarding women in prison, etc., it makes for a hard read but this is an academic study. Our country really needs some reforms in the prison systen and drug laws.
