Constructive ethics Book

I got this ethics text for a subject this semester and ended up wishing I had read it when I studied philosophy the first time I was at uni. As an introduction to ethical issues and what forms various arguments and why, this book is everything you could ask for. It by no means exhausts the issues covered, but provides a comprehensive and well delivered dip into the waters of ethical philosophy.

Each chapter covers a theory or set of related thories that progress through the book in a logical sequence. Waller does well to provide a crash-course on each topic in an understandable way that is a blessing for many first-time-philosophy-students. Couple this with the inclusion of primary reference material that directly relates to each chapter and there's a duality of simple introduction paired with original depth.

Waller has provided a clear voice that avoids the high-literature version of philosophy that can be so alienating for first year students. In the first year of my philosophy degree there were countless other students who struggled immensely with understanding the basic concepts of ethical dilemmas. I can't help think that if they had a book such as this one to break it down, there would have been a lot more clarity.
