Soccer
Soccer is a team sport with 11 players on the field for each team. In soccer there are 2 half’s that are each 45 minutes long. In soccer there are also fouls where you can get “rewarded” a yellow of red card. A game where a ball has been kicked around has been out since ancient China! Soccer is played everywhere around the world and is undisputedly the most popular sport right now. Nowadays soccer balls are made from leather panels and stitched together around a rubber “bladder”. There is also indoor soccer where the rules are the same but the ball and shoes different and you play I a dome kind of field.
Football
Football is again a team sport where there can only be 11 players on the field for each team. In America, football is the favorite sport of most. Each team scores by ether getting a touchdown in where you have to pass a certain area of a field (6 points), Kicking a field goal where you try to get it between a set of uprights (3 points), Two point conversion where after getting a touchdown you start 2 yards behind the touchdown and try to make it in to the end zone (touchdown) for two points, Pat, where you kick a field goal after the touchdown from 10 yards out and try to make it(1 point). Football players wear a lot of gear to prevent injury such as, a helmet, shoulder pads, upper arm pads, elbow pads, rib pads, hip and groin pads, thigh pads, and lastly knee pads. Football has been played form the late 19th century to now.
Ice Hockey
Ice hockey is hockey played on ice. It has been around since the 16th hundreds and overtime has become a popular sport. Just like football you wear a lot of gear such as a helmet, elbow pads, gloves, shoulder and chest padding, and leg padding. The objective of ice hockey is to try to score a goal on the other person’s goal. In hockey they wear special types of skates that are specially made for ice. Each team has 6 players on the ice at a time. In hockey there are defensive zones, neutral zones and an attacking zone.
Basketball
Basketball Is a sport where the other team tries to score on the other team’s basket. There are 10 players on the court at a time, 5 from one team and 5 from the other team. In basketball you have to dribble the ball without carrying the ball. Basketball players don’t wear any gear but special shoes that are designed for playing basketball.
