From 1947 to 1951, the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau in partnership with Purdue University's School of Agriculture and the state's county agricultural agents sponsored an award program that certified more than 1,600 Indiana farms as having been owned by the same family for one hundred years or more. In Centennial Farms of Indiana, editors M. Teresa Baer, Kathleen M. Breen and Judith Q. McMullen utilize the index Ruth Dorrel created from the Centennial Farm Family Records Collection housed in the Society's library and weave in stories about Centennial Farms from the families who owned them, along with historic photographs of Hoosier farms.
