Benjamin Franklin and the Politics of Improvement
The book was good and contained a lot of interesting photos. However, so little is known about Laura, that much of the book is speculation. It seems that it the way that Laura wanted it. She seems to have been a very private person, which leaves us wondering about this most exceptional lady.
J.E.B. Stuart and John S. Mosby owed Laura a huge debt, and they are the only reason that we know about her today. I suspect that many of the other young ladies who signed Laura's album also assisted the Confederate Army, but only Antonia Ford is known to have done any spying. I hope that the other ladies did contribute and that we may learn more about them some day.
