Behind Every Man: The Story of Nancy Cooper Russell Book

This was undoubtedly one of the most poorly written biographies that I've ever read. The style was childish and horribly slanted toward the goodness of Nancy Russell. But, from the descriptions of how she treated everyone around her, she sounds like a terrible, selfish woman who browbeat Charlie Russell into painting more and more--even when he wanted to take it easy and enjoy his friends.
She pushed him into building a house in Great Falls and in California, and even though admittedly, he loved the Great Falls house, especially his studio, Nancy kept him on the go. She didn't hesitate to call art gallery owners all over the world to convince them to give Charlie his own shows.
Perhaps the world wouldn't have been as familiar with Charlie Russell's work if his wife hadn't been so driven to succeed. It seemed to me that Charlie might have been happier in his private life with a woman less aggressive and greedy.
Her career was promoting Charlie Russell and his western art and she did a good job. But at what price? Their adopted son was alienated, as was many of Charlie's old friends.
I can't recommend this one. I'd like to read a good bio of Charlie himself and get an unbiased opinion of Nancy Russell.
