Everything in Texas is not big. I wasn't but sometimes I had to act as if I were. In between pulling a three foot cotton sack behind my mother at five years old and playing referee with both parents, and ducking tornadoes you would think I'd get the idea even at such an early age that life wasn't going to be easy; now I feel entitled to say, it wasn't.
Why my high school graduate mother would marry a less than educated man, over thirty years older and could drink rubbing alcohol, I can't guess.
Each year I went up another school grade I was not so glad to be promoted as I was to be alive. The life mother and I endured is unbelievable how we existed at all. It was a hard book to write because I don't like to relive those days. But it is about one life mixed with mine and the fact that I don't believe any other families lived in such a way.
Enjoy these pages of life as a young child tolerated the real word "dysfunctional family."
