Assaults on Conventionexamines the lesbian transgressor's role in society and challenges the assumption that every lesbian has an obligation to protect the respectability of the lesbian community in the eyes of the heterosexual world. It argues instead that lesbian transgression can break down a layer of restrictive and outdated rules for the whole of society.
