Canadian diplomat and president of the Sadat Peace Foundation, James George, offers a gently persuasive extended argument that our planet is suffering from twin crises: ecological and spiritual. To avoid disaster we must wed scientific understanding to an awakening of individual consciousness and conscientiousness. The author himself is inspired by the teachings of Gurdjieff, Thomas Merton, Tibetan Buddhism, and other contemplative traditions.

Author Biography: Author is a retired Canadian Ambassador with a long-standing commitment to environmental issues. A founder of the influential Threshold Foundation and President of the Sadat Peace Foundation, he led the international mission to Kuwait to assess post-war environmental damage.
