Arabic Literary Heritage: The Development of its Genres and Criticism
Nice coverage on the poetry, drama and prose sections-they do seem to amount to lists of canonically prominent works at times, but the coverage is very broad and sensitive to stuff produced in geographically marginal literary centres (the Maghrib). The chapter on criticism is particularly valuable as an introduction to the history of this field and there are some interesting observations that open a lot of the chapters.
