Anna Letitia Barbauld: Voice of the Enlightenment
This took me a while to get through because it's a very long, very dense biography, although written in a very readable style by somebody who comes over as Anna Letitia's leading fanboy. It's of interest both for redeeming an overlooked or belittled figure from the condescension of posterity and for yet another sad example of How To Suppress Women's Writing. (The young men of the Romantic Movement do not come off well in this account - Regency equivalent of social media trolls.) It also places significant weight on Barbauld's desire to support other women (even when they were in disagreement) and her influence as mentor on younger women: I am in favour of biographies of women that don't think it's all about the men they associated with.
