These Examples of technical problems are in no way intended to take the place of the recognized "classics" of violin-exercise literature. They are to show how difficulties may be analysed and prepared for. They are divided into three sections: Bowings in elementary form Bowings in more varied form Left hand. I have, in many cases written only a bar or two, leaving the student to work out the suggestion for himself. The keys in which they are written should be changed from day to day. Needless to say, the passages are to be practised descending as well as ascending. These same principles can be applied to every kind of difficulty. The suggestions given in "The Making of a Violinist" should be read carefully, before practising these examples. I emphasise again that the student's aim must be to acquire beauty of tone, ease of style and decision of action.
