Very similar to my sentimental favorite Historic Costume for the Stage in format with each decade covered by text outlining the period,prominent style changes, men's wear, women's wear (each broken down by hair & grooming, headwear,underwear & lounge wear, dress for various times of day or activity, footwear and accessories. There are then a few paragraphs on fabrics, colors & trims and finally staging suggestions including typical postures & costuming short-cuts to achieve the look of the period. Text is followed by numerous small line drawings and some small black & white photos or period illustrations. Each decade includes a list of representative plays set in that period. No index but a fairly extensive bibliography plus chapter notes and picture credits.
