From the first mass-produced automobile, the Model-T Ford, through the golden post war era of luxurious family cruisers like the 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air, to modern-day engineering masterpieces, such as the Dodge Viper, the United States has been on the cutting edge of automotive design for almost a century. American Cars is an expansive and lavishly illustrated celebration of some of the finest vehicles ever produced in the United States.

This book looks in detail at over 200 of the most spectacular, powerful, and beautiful of these cars, providing an exhilarating tour of the States' motoring history. Covering all the most famous marques, including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Pontiac, American Cars is packed with a wealth of information, examining each car from all angles. Detailed specifications are provided for each machine, including performance statistics, engine types, transmission, special features, running gear, and dimensions. The book also takes a close look under the hood, examining the chassis, and suspension as well as the design of the engine. Finally the book follows the production milestones in each car's life, marking refinements and developments in styling and performance.

Gregg Cheetham is an experienced motoring journalist and author. He has contributed to various books including The Encyclopedia of Classic Cars, and currently works for Auto Express magazine writing features and testing new and used cars.
