Max grapples with the outrageousness of divorced parents beginning to date — and other mysteries of evolution — in his third quirky notebook.

Welcome to Max’s book of inventions, experiments, comic strips, and random thoughts about school, the universe, evolution, and parents who definitely don’t act the way parents are supposed to act. Luckily for Max, he has a place to jot down his biggest questions and most amazing discoveries. This zany mix of comics, concoctions, and contraptions helps Max tells the story of his topsy-turvy life and how he comes to terms with a changing family.

Children's Literature

Max is at that awkward stage in his life when many personal changes are happening. This is tough for both boys and girls; however, Max is trying to understand what is happening to him and even though he is a budding scientist who would prefer a simple life, his world is anything but that. Throughout the book are pages where the Alien Eraser is solving scientific problems that provide excellent facts. Other pages have the continuing story of Max dealing with his personal life that presents a lot of events that "just blow his mind." He creates a list of the top ten gross things in his life and the number one gross thing is seeing his mother getting dressed for a date. That beat out his brother's pimples and hearing someone vomit. He provides essential information for the reader such as how to avoid being noticed by a teacher and how to ward off girls. The illustrations are absolutely wonderful and the author has managed to take a very serious life-changing situation and add just enough humor (with advice) to make this book a sure hit with kids. I liked the fact that at the very end, Max makes a chart (for his own use only) with the items that he would like to change about himself. This is number three in the "Max Disaster" series.
