A daughter's promise Book

Julie Ellis is an outstanding writer. The first 300 pages of this book kept me on the edge of my seat. However, a few details/plot lines were included that reminded me of a Danielle Steel novel. (Although I love Danielle Steel ) For example, when Iris smuggled the seven children in to a safe place . That story line was thrown in and seemed unbelievable, but she included it in order for us to like Iris more.
Then, Katie becomes mad when her mom doesn't tell her she got married -she thought her mom was trying to secretly push the kids out of her life. She's still her mom, which means she deserved time for an explanation. The main character, Laura became unlikable because she wanted to please her ungrateful daughter and started thinking ridiculous thoughts like "she wanted the kids to know she puts them first. " Of course she puts the kids first. Then she goes back to the anti-Semetic town thinking no one would recognize her. Duh. She should have gone by her middle name if she truly wanted to deceive people.
She could have skipped the parts about the Denver boom and ended the novel with exposing the true killer sooner rather than later.
I love the homage to Rev. Dr. MLK. That brought it home for me. She is forgiven for the unbelievable fillers. The last chapter and ending was outstanding.
I will read more of her work ; she has potential. Give this book a chance, you will be pleased.
