A Brush with God: An ICON Workbook
The author started of life as an Irish-American Catholic who became fascinated by Byzantine icons at a young age. He once joined a monastery, and after leaving the monastery devoted his life to Icon making. Aside from the beautiful full-color icons and the simple step-by-step guide true making them, what I love about this book is the focus on theology. The author believes that icon making and even simply gazing at icons can enrich our spiritual lives. To that end, he guides the reader to a Byzantine perspective on beauty, prayer, and the inherent goodness of the material world. Above all, he focuses on the dialogue between God and humanity through material media - all of Creation, icons, the natural world, and especially other people reflecting the goodness of God.
