Christopher Okigbo, the Nigerian poet, remains greatly mourned, having lost his life in 1967, fighting for the independence of Biafra. This anthology is a project of the Christopher Okigbo Foundation, established to preserve and widen appreciation of his work. The foreword, by Professor Isidore Okpewho, describes the poems as a historic collection celebrating Okigbo's "spirit and his genius". The volume contains over 200 poems from over 100 poets, which are new voices: conversing with Okgbo, recreating his words, echoing his themes, and identifying and entrenching the ideals of his craft. The volume both reflects the Okigbo spirit and tradition in Nigerian poety, and showcases a flowering of new talent. Patrick Tagbo Oguejiofor is a writer and cultural activist, and Chairman of the Christopher Okigbo Society. He is a former Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Writers, a published author, and has had a radio and stage play performed. Uduma Kalu is the Literary Editor of The Guardian in Nigeria, a published poet, and the national publicity secretary of the Christopher Okigbo Society.
