Seeds of the Pomegranate
This is the sequel to The Pomegranate Pendant, which was better, having more actual story. The first book wasn't that detailed, but I felt like Seeds of the Pomegranate was just a brief history of Israel told from a family's point of view to make it more personal. Even when one cousin marries an Ethiopian immigrant, it's not very emotional, but rather simply adds the story of their arrival and struggle to fit into Israeli society. The reopening of the store resonates more than the constant repetition of the pomegranate pendant worn at family members' henna ceremonies, but is not enough.
