A thorough work on Nechama Leibowitz's work, teaching methodology, philosophy, and world view. I would have liked more biographical information. At times the book read like a scholarly dissertation. I think the chapter about her brother could have been omitted, and instead woven into her family background. I think it was a little distracting.
It was interesting to see how her style of teaching Chumash has impacted on education overall, and I can say that it was ' in some ways ' very much how I was taught, and how I therefore teach.
Some accolades were over the top, such as saying that no one had studied Rashi in depth until her, a statement I think would have made her squirm, or issue a rebuke (I think Mizrachi, Sifsei Chachamim, and the 300+ supercommentaries on Rashi would have found this a surprising assertion).
I think that the subject's personality are conveyed without reservation, both glories and dings.
I think this could ' perhaps ' have been two separate volumes, which appeal to some different and some overlapping audiences.
Overall, a worthy read!
