Indienfahrt Book

I love the cover of the book, the type and the plates. However, the author, while telling some interesting (although occasionally racist and violent)tales, has a tendency to wax poetic too much. He gets caught up in wordy prose that can get pretty stodgy after a while. It is a bit odd too that for all his praise of nature and animals, early on in the book are too horrifying stories about animals, one of which is heartbreaking in its cruelty. Of course, he was from the "old days" so his descriptions of natives of India are often condescending in which only the white man is fit to actually run a country. However he does have some beautiful passages about the beauty of India, the flowers, food, and how entranced he is by the country. It's a decent read but took me a lot longer to finish since I nodded off more than once getting through those long, wordy passages.
