All Around the Islands Book

All Around the Islands is a counting book in rhyme that introduces some of Hawai'i's most beloved animals-from the humpback whale to the gecko to the soaring 'iwa-along with each Island in the Hawaiian Island chain.

Brilliantly illustrated by local artist Ruth Moen Cabanting, the unique beauty of each individual Island comes to life as pueo hoot on Hawai'i, pineapple bugs fly on Lana'i, and 'ahi swim in the waters around O'ahu. There's no better way to learn about the Islands, counting from one to ten.

Written in a rhythm and rhyme children will want to hear read again and again, Arita's story - adapted from the classic rhyme "Over in the Meadow," written in the late 1800s - will prove to be a family favorite.

About the Author

Vera Arita, born and raised in Waipahu on the Island of O'ahu, received a Bachelors and Masters degree in education from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. She has been a special education teacher for over twenty years and is currently teaching at Mililani Ike Elementary. She and her husband, Neal, have two sons, Grant and Steven. This is Arita's first children's book.

About the Illustrator

Ruth Moen Cabanting was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated from San Jose State University where she majored in graphic design and illustration. After graduating, she moved to Hawai'i where she has worked as an art director, designer, and illustrator for ad agencies, design firms, and a Japanese department store. Her other children's books include: S Went Surfing, Happy Honu Takes a Bath, and 1-2-3 Waikiki Trolley. Cabanting lives in Waimanalo.
