Approaching Omega Book

I don't remember why I bought this book - I probably saw a positive review either in Asimov's or on Slashdot. In any case it took me two years to get to it.

I read the first half on a flight from Seattle to Detroit. It was bad - the writing itself was okay but the plot was paper-thin and the characterizations were even worse. I thought I had it all figured out.

I read the second half on the flight back from Detroit. And, honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. The cheesy ending I was expecting didn't present itself. Sure, there were definitely cheesy scenes, but on the whole the story was wrapped up pretty well.

So I guess I'm saying that this is worth a read. Don't expect too much from it but don't give up either. It's worth sticking it out.
