This edited volume gives an overview of Scotland's youth justice process. The contributors describe the various contexts of youth justice and review the current evidence as to its effectiveness while identifying problems and future challenges. The book provides a systemic and process- oriented overview of the youth justice system, answering the questions: How does it work? Who are the key agencies/stakeholders? When are key decisions taken and by whom? In so doing, some statistical analysis of crimes committed by young offenders is presented to outline: who they are, the crimes they are committing, and where and why these occur. To give an indication of future directions for policy and strategy, the editors discuss recent research that has been conducted to evaluate approaches to tacking youth offending in Scotland. The result is a comprehensive text that demonstrates how 'the Scottish system' deals with issues common to many jurisdictions.
