The Masterpiece
Ik begrijp niet waarom dit boek in de recensies zo wordt afgemaakt. Het Meesterstuk bevat alle elementen die je in de Nederlandse literatuur hoort aan te treffen - mensen die vreemd gaan, mensen die in de war zijn met hun eigen seksualiteit, verbijsterende leitmotiven waarvan aan het einde de betekenis niet helemaal duidelijk is (of zo voor de hand ligt dat het weer cliche is). In die zin is dit boek niet anders dan 'Tirza' maar dan in elk geval heel wat beter te behapstukken. Ja, soms krijg je kippenvel van gruwel, maar niet de hele tijd en uiteindelijk wordt het nog spannend ook. De 'sterfscene' in het midden van het boek is heel mooi uitgewerkt en weet zelfs te raken - doet Enquist het toch beter dan Grunberg!
