Pamela Mordecai was born in Jamaica and wrote her first poem at the age of nine. She has published over thirty books. She has a special interest in the writing of Caribbean women. She lives in Toronto with her husband, Martin.

Pink Icing and Other Stories
Only read the short story "Chalk it up" for a class. The Carribean dialect was nice, but sometimes hard to follow. There was definitely room for different interpretations, as the story was told from a child's perspective. As an adult reader, you have to interpret what really happens during the events this child experiences, as she as a narrator is rather unreliable. Themes of patriarchal structure in society, as well as mental health issues can be read into this short but poignant and thought provoking work.
Would love to try out some of the other stories some day!
