All the remaining linguistic data on the St. Lawrence Iroquoians comes from the Cartier voyages of 1534 and 1535-6. Cartier compiled two vocabularies from captives of Stadacona (modern day Quebec City) of 60 and 160 words, published in his First and Second Relations respectively. They document an Iroquoian language (or multiple languages) whose identity is still uncertain. This edition also contains words from the narrative portions of the Relations not found in either vocabulary, including six words which appear to be from the Hochelaga dialect spoken on the island of Montreal.
