This story is a remake of Olive A. Wadsworth's classic nursery poem, "Over in the Meadow," written in the late 1800s and based on a classic Appalachian counting rhyme. As children sing or recited the verses in Down by the River, they learn to count and learn about plants, fish, and animals found along Alaska's rivers. This portrait of the northern wilderness is sure to become an Alaska children's classic.
