A strong work of theological anthropology. Hopkins makes a wide use of sources, from contemporary theological discourses of liberalism, post-liberalism, feminism, and liberation theologies to African cultural theorists, in order to build a constructive theological anthropology drawing on archetypes of African-American folk-tales. A highly original and creative project. I would have liked to see a bit more constructive work done, and I think the work would have benefitted from drawing on early theological anthropology. Overall, a great work that deserves a wide readership.
