This sequel to Forever, for Now: Poems for a Later Love follows the second year of romance between two middle-aged lovers. Mixing erotic poems with those depicting everyday experiences, the book highlights the memorable events they share (attending symphonies, going to the zoo, gardening, listening to jazz, sightseeing, celebrating holidays) as they journey from Christmas 1990 to Christmas 1991, from their home in St. Louis to Fort Lauderdale, New York, and Boston, from passion to the deepening mellowing affection and intimacy of their new life together.

The pervasiveness of paper-whites, an exotically scented variety of narcissus, lends to this story a tender and gentle sensuousness, symbolic of their relationship, that is perhaps uncommon to many of us who may have forgotten how to "take time and smell the flowers."
